Scope and Contents
As a device for attracting visitors to his early Philadelphia museum, C. W. Peale gave various courses of lectures. The outlines for those delivered during 1801 to 1802 were devoted to the subject of natural objects. The series consists of 39 numbers and various introductory sections, making in all 42 parts. Scope and Contents
When the Portrait was first processed its origin was unknown. However an email from ANS Curatorial Assistant of the Department of Entomology to the ANS Library and Archive Director gives some clue into the possible insight into its history. The following quote is from this email, "My thinking, all circumstantial at this juncture, is that:
